Thiruvananthapuram: Seven third-year students linked with the Students' Federation of India (SFI) have been suspended for allegedly subjecting a first-year undergraduate student to brutal ragging at Kariavattom Campus, University of Kerala.
According to reports, the victim was forced to strip, beaten with a cane, and forced to drink spat-on water. The college anti-ragging committee submitted a report based on CCTV footage and witness statements, prompting the Kazhakkoottam police to launch an investigation.
The victim alleged that the SFI members took him to the unit room, where he was detained and tortured for nearly an hour. The SFI unit secretary is among those named in the case. Meanwhile, the SFI district leadership stated that they would wait for the police investigation to reveal the truth before issuing a statement on the matter.
