Bhopal: A man who arrived at the district court in Bhopal to marry a woman from another religion under the Special Marriage Act was brutally assaulted on the court premises. The victim, a native of Narasinghpur, was attacked by two individuals while attempting to submit documents to his lawyer. Footage of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The assailants were identified as members of the Hindu extremist group ‘Sanskriti Bachavo Manch’. They allegedly claimed that the man had brought the woman to court forcibly for marriage, terming it "love jihad”. According to sources, they received this information from lawyers present at the court.
It is learned that the police arrested the victim on allegations of coercing the woman into converting to another religion. However, no case has been registered against those who assaulted him.
“We have taken both the man and woman into custody and recorded their statements. The woman confirmed that she was forced into marriage and conversion, as per her testimony,” said Bopal ASP Akshay Chawdhry. “The victim has not filed a complaint against his attackers, so no case has been registered against them,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sanskriti Bachavo Manch president Chandra Shekhar Tiwari alleged that multiple photos and phone numbers of Hindu women were found on the victim’s phone and accused him of forcefully marrying women. The group has urged the police to file various charges against him, including those related to sexual assault.
