Bengaluru: A late-night quarrel over switching off a light turned fatal in Karnataka’s capital when a 41-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his colleague with a dumbbell inside their rented office, police said.
The incident occurred around 1.30 am on Saturday at the office of Data Digital Bank, a private firm engaged in storing and managing movie shooting footage, according to police and media reports.
The deceased, Bheemesh Babu, a native of Chitradurga district, and the accused, Somala Vamshi, 24, from Vijayawada, were the only two employees staying overnight at the premises.
Investigators said the two men got into a heated argument when one objected to turning off a light. In a fit of rage, Vamshi allegedly picked up a dumbbell and struck Bheemesh on the forehead, killing him on the spot.
Following the incident, the accused walked to the Govindraj Nagar police station and surrendered, a senior police officer said. Police have registered a case of murder against him, after which he was arrested.
Officials described the killing as a “fit of rage accident” triggered by a trivial dispute. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
