A family in Kasaragod has been hit by another devastating loss, with 24-year-old Arjun Mahesh found hanging in a hotel room near Mangaluru Airport, months after his younger sister died by suicide.

Arjun, a native of Mukkood in Pallikkara, was found dead inside a room at Sky Grand Empire Hotel in Maravoor on Monday afternoon. The hotel falls under the limits of the Kavoor police station. 

According to Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Arjun was the son of K Radhika and Mahesh. He was reportedly working as an automobile engineer in Dubai and had returned to India recently.

However, Arjun did not go back home after arriving in the country. His relatives became concerned when they could not trace him and began looking for him in Mangaluru.

Their search eventually led them to the hotel, where they found him dead.

Police recovered a brief note from the room addressed to his mother and two friends. The note reportedly read, 'Amma, I'm sorry, inform friends.'

Police have now launched an investigation to determine what led to Arjun's death and are examining events and circumstances preceding the incident. Statements from his family members and friends are expected to be recorded as part of the probe.

Arjun was the elder brother of 19-year-old Aija R Mahesh, a NEET aspirant from Kerala who died by suicide on June 2.

Aija had been preparing for the NEET re-examination after the National Testing Agency cancelled the earlier examination following allegations of a question paper leak. She was found hanging in a hostel in Pala.

Her mother had previously said that the teenager was confident about securing good marks but had become distressed after the cancellation of the examination and the announcement of a re-examination.

With the deaths of both siblings now being investigated separately, police are examining the circumstances surrounding Arjun's death and will record statements from those close to him. Further details are awaited.
