Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Siddique, who had appeared before the investigation team for questioning in connection with a rape complaint, was arrested here on Friday. After the arrest was recorded, he was brought before the Assistant Commissioner of the Narcotics Cell, following the conditions set by the Supreme Court.
Siddique had arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment Police Station along with his son Shaheen Siddique.
According to the police report, Siddique has not been cooperating with the investigation and has allegedly attempted to mislead the investigation team from the beginning. The police had requested the court to impose stringent conditions if granting bail. They had urged that Siddique be required to appear whenever summoned by the investigation team and to prevent him from influencing or intimidating the complainant or any witnesses in any way.
As per reports, when the complainant threatened to expose the incident, Siddique allegedly threatened her in return, claiming she was powerless to take action against him.
In November, the Supreme Court had granted anticipatory bail to Siddique in connection with the case, subject to conditions. The bench, led by Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma, granted relief to the actor on the condition that he surrender his passport and fully cooperate with the investigation.
As per the police report, actor Siddique allegedly got to know the complainant through Facebook. He had invited her to a hotel under the pretense of offering her a role in an upcoming film, where he raped her. The report, submitted to the court, outlines serious allegations against the actor, stating that he had been messaging the complainant to build a relationship. It also claims that Siddique called her to the hotel to discuss a supposed film project, but exploited her acting aspirations to commit the crime.
After undergoing a medical examination, Siddique was presented before the Thiruvananthapuram First Class Magistrate Court. The police have insisted on stringent conditions to ensure accountability in the case.
