Mumbai: Singer-composer Vishal Dadlani has issued a strong message to aspiring singers attempting to enter the music industry through influence rather than talent, reiterating his long-standing belief that merit must come before connections.

The musician, one half of the popular composer duo Vishal–Shekhar, took to social media after a newcomer allegedly tried to reach him through a politically influential intermediary. Expressing clear displeasure, Dadlani cautioned young artists against using “sifaarish” or powerful contacts as a means to secure opportunities.

In his post, Dadlani stated that approaching him through a minister or their secretary is a “guaranteed way” to never work with him. He added that he has “zero respect” for those who rely on influence instead of believing in their own abilities. The composer also revealed that both the intermediary and the singer involved have been blocked, noting that even exceptional talent would not change his stance.

Alongside the warning, Dadlani offered advice to upcoming singers, urging them to trust their craft and remain patient. “Please have faith in your talent, be prepared to work hard, and be patient. If you are good, your time will come,” he wrote, underlining the importance of perseverance and consistency.

The post triggered widespread discussion online. Responding to a query about how newcomers should approach established artists, Dadlani advised, “Just put your music out. If it’s good, it will find me.” He also shared that he is in the process of developing a platform to regularly discover and promote new talent.

Despite the firm tone of his remarks, Dadlani declined to publicly identify the singer involved when asked by users. He said one mistake should not define a person’s career and expressed hope that the individual would learn from the experience and approach future opportunities appropriately.

Known for his outspoken views on honesty, self-belief, and personal growth, Vishal Dadlani frequently uses his platform to challenge industry practices. With a career spanning hit songs such as Khuda Jaane, Ishq Wala Love, Bang Bang, and Besharam Rang, the composer continues to advocate for authenticity and merit in the music industry.
