One year without power: Uttarakhand Anganwadi relies on hand fans
An Anganwadi centre in Uttarakhand's Ramnagar has no electricity nearly a year after construction, forcing children to study in extreme heat.
An Anganwadi centre in Chilkiya village of Uttarakhand's Ramnagar has been operating without an electricity connection for nearly a year after its construction, forcing children and staff to endure extreme heat. Although the building is equipped with ceiling fans, they remain unusable due to the lack of power, leaving hand fans as the only relief.
Anganwadi worker Gita Manral said the electricity department informed local authorities that the connection would be provided only after the concerned department deposits the required payment. Parents say the absence of electricity and water has made it difficult for children to attend preschool, particularly during the hot summer months.

Child Development Project Officer Poonam Rautela said a proposal for electricity connections has already been sent to higher authorities. Until permanent approval is granted, temporary arrangements will be made through nearby schools or Panchayat buildings. Parents and Anganwadi workers hope the long-pending issue is resolved quickly to provide children with a safe and comfortable learning environment.
