Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik creates giant helmet, plastic fish at Odisha’s Gopalpur Beach Festival
Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has turned Odisha’s Gopalpur Beach into a platform for social awareness during the annual beach festival.
Odisha’s Gopalpur Beach Festival has become a canvas for awareness, with celebrated sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik using large-scale sculptures to spotlight road safety and environmental protection.
Marking Road Safety month, Pattnaik created a 20-foot-high helmet sculpture using 100 real helmets, sending a strong message on the importance of responsible driving and saving lives.
He also unveiled an 80-foot-long fish sculpture made entirely from discarded plastic, highlighting the growing menace of single-use plastic and its impact on marine life.
Pattnaik plans to claim a world record for this unique creation.
A Padma Shri awardee and world-record-holding sand artist, Sudarsan Pattnaik, is globally recognised for transforming sand into powerful visual narratives that promote social awareness, safety and environmental responsibility.
