As Salman Khan turns 60 on Saturday, his journey through Bollywood stands among the most influential and commercially successful in the history of Hindi cinema. With a career spanning over three decades and more than 100 films, Salman has remained a constant box office force, commanding unwavering loyalty from audiences across generations.
From romantic dramas and family entertainers to high-octane action films and socially driven narratives, Salman Khan’s filmography reflects both range and reinvention. His ability to adapt while retaining mass appeal has made him one of the industry’s most enduring superstars.
Salman made his acting debut with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) before achieving instant stardom with Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), a film that earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. The 1990s cemented his status as a leading man with landmark films such as Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990), Sanam Bewafa (1991), Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999) and Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999).
In the 2000s, Salman explored emotional depth, romance and comedy through films like Tere Naam (2003), Baghban (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), Partner (2007), Wanted (2009) and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna (2009). This phase paved the way for one of Bollywood’s most remarkable comebacks.
The 2010s marked a golden era, with Salman delivering massive blockbusters including Dabangg (2010), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Sultan (2016), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), Bharat (2019) and Dabangg 3 (2019). His recent films include Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai (2021), Antim: The Final Truth (2021), Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) and Tiger 3 (2023).
Salman Khan’s performances have earned him widespread recognition, including multiple Filmfare nominations for Tere Naam, Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The latter also won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
He has shared the screen with industry heavyweights such as Shah Rukh Khan (Karan Arjun, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam), Aamir Khan (Andaz Apna Apna) and Akshay Kumar (Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Jaan-E-Mann), and worked with leading actresses across generations, from Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and Rashmika Mandanna.
Salman, hailing from a renowned Khan family and is the son of film producer Salma Khan and renowned screenwriter Salim Khan. He is the eldest of five siblings, which also include sisters Alvira Agnihotri and Arpita Khan Sharma, as well as actors Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. The family also includes his stepmother, veteran actress Helen.
His next appearance is in Apoorva Lakhia's war drama Battle of Galwan, in which he plays Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu.
