Rising water levels in the Ganga and Yamuna rivers have heightened flood concerns in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, after continuous monsoon rains in the upper catchment areas. Several riverbank locations, including the iconic Dashashwamedh Ghat, have been partially submerged, disrupting daily life and livelihoods.

Vendors along the ghats said the water level of the Ganges has risen by nearly five to six feet over the past three days, forcing priests, shopkeepers and street vendors to shift their businesses to higher ground as floodwaters continue to advance.

Students travelling from nearby districts have also been affected, with many reporting disruptions to their studies due to worsening flood conditions.

Residents of low-lying areas have urged authorities to strengthen relief measures and provide temporary infrastructure in flood-prone localities.

Officials said they are closely monitoring the river levels and have advised people living near the riverbanks to remain alert and take necessary precautions as monsoon rains continue across the region.
