Fresh snowfall in Rohtang Pass and other high-altitude regions around Manali has brought much-needed relief and excitement to locals after a prolonged dry spell. The winter boost is expected to revive both tourism and agricultural prospects in the region.

On Monday morning, Rohtang recorded nearly two inches of fresh snow, ending weeks of anticipation for residents and travellers alike. The development has raised hopes that Manali will soon witness its own first snowfall of the season.

According to the tourism officials, the snowy landscape in Rohtang is likely to attract a surge of visitors to Manali, as well as to nearby Lahaul-Spiti. Even though Manali and Kullu continued to experience mostly clear skies, temperatures dipped sharply due to the snowfall in the higher reaches.

However, the fresh spell of snow has also led to the closure of the Manali–Leh highway. The route, which normally shuts in November, had remained open this year because of the extended dry conditions.
