FIRs lodged against NRAI over ammunition sale irregularities at Bhopal range
Bhopal police have initiated legal action against the NRAI after a verification drive at its shooting range allegedly revealed Arms Act violations linked to the sale of ammunition.
Bhopal police have booked the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) under the Arms Act after allegedly detecting irregularities in the sale of ammunition at its shooting range in the city, officials said on Wednesday.
The violations came to light during a special verification drive carried out by the police to check adherence to Arms Act norms.
“Over the past few days, the police had conducted several checks to ensure proper compliance with provisions of the Arms Act. During these inspections, irregularities were found at multiple places, following which FIRs were registered and further legal action is being taken,” Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra told PTI Videos on Wednesday.
Police said the FIR was registered at Ratibad police station after it was found that cartridges were allegedly sold to shooters without proper documentation and without making mandatory entries in arms licences, as required under law.
Investigators claim that a significant amount of ammunition was sold at the NRAI's shooting range in Bhopal without keeping the required records, in violation of the laws governing ammunition sales.
Concerns were raised by officials that cartridges sold without adequate documentation might be abused or given to criminal organisations.
According to police, the case is still being investigated, and some shooters have also been prosecuted for breaking the law when purchasing ammunition.
