Over 5 lakh acres of farmland across the Cauvery Delta have been submerged due to relentless rains
More than 5 lakh acres in the Cauvery Delta districts have been affected by recent rains, and farmers are demanding relief of Rs 35,000 per acre, said P.R. Pandian, General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers’ Association.
Pandian visited the rain-hit areas, including Thirukkalar, Karupkizhar, Mel Panaiyur, Karambakkudi, and Kottur, which come under the Kottur union of Tiruvarur district. He met with farmers to assess the extent of the damage.
During his visit, he inquired about the impacts on crops and agricultural lands, stressing the urgent need for government assistance to help farmers recover from the losses caused by the heavy rains.
