Dr Mona Sardar Dudi, a Bikaner-based artist, has developed a unique painting technique called 'Kurechan Paddhati', in which he creates intricate portraits, landscapes and religious artworks using a shaving blade instead of a paintbrush. After years of experimenting with different tools, Dudi now scratches away layers of oil paint on canvas to produce detailed images, a method he says is unlike any other being practised today. Having created thousands of artworks, including over 5,000 depictions of Radha and Krishna, he is now teaching the rare technique to 15–20 students every evening to preserve the art form for future generations.
