Bihar youth’s UPSC ‘success’ turns awkward: Grand village celebration ends in embarrassment
A young man in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district received a hero’s welcome after claiming he had cleared the UPSC exam. But celebrations turned into disbelief when it was discovered he had not actually qualified.
What began as a moment of pride and celebration for a village in Bihar quickly turned into embarrassment after it emerged that a young man who claimed to have cleared the civil services examination had not actually qualified.
Ranjeet Kumar received a grand welcome when he returned to Fatehpur village in Sheikhpura district, with residents believing that he had secured a rank in the highly competitive UPSC examination. Villagers gathered to congratulate him, distributed sweets, and garlanded him as they celebrated what they thought was the village’s first-ever success in the civil services.

During the celebrations, Ranjeet addressed villagers and shared motivational speeches about his supposed journey to success, recounting struggles and perseverance while preparing for the exam. Many residents listened with admiration, and videos of his speeches soon began circulating on social media, drawing praise from users who hailed the inspiring story.
However, the celebrations soon took an unexpected turn.
Doubts arose when a police officer, who had come to felicitate him, asked Ranjeet to show his UPSC admit card, Aadhaar card, and other documents related to the examination. According to villagers, he was unable to produce any of the requested proof.
Soon after, it became clear that Ranjeet had not cleared the civil services examination and had not secured the rank he claimed. The revelation stunned residents, turning the festive atmosphere into confusion and anger.
Some villagers suggested that the confusion may have arisen because another candidate from Karnataka with a similar name had reportedly secured rank 440 in the examination, possibly leading to the mix-up.
Facing mounting questions and embarrassment, Ranjeet reportedly left the village shortly afterward. Sources said he may have returned to Delhi, where he had been preparing for the civil services examination.
