On Vijayadashami, Kerala comes alive with the joyous sounds of children stepping into the realm of knowledge, as the day is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of wisdom and learning. Temples across the state welcomed a surge of devotees, with thousands of children participating in this sacred tradition.
The ceremony, known as 'Vidhya Aarambham,' marks the beginning of education. Youngsters are taught to write their first letters on a platter of rice, often inscribing "Hari Shri." Additionally, the parent or teacher writes on the child's tongue using a honey-dipped ring. The rituals also include prayers to Lord Ganesha and Devi Saraswati, alongside special pujas.
