However, some Bengali listeners have raised questions about its melody, alleging it resembles the popular Bengali song 'Ami Shunechhi Shedin' by singer-songwriter Mousumi Bhowmik.

Now, Mousumi Bhowmik has responded to the discussion, making it clear that she does not believe the two songs share the similarities netizens point out.

A social media user tagged the singer and asked for her reaction to the alleged resemblance. In response, Bhowmik said she had not heard 'Tu Mil Jaaye' before and listened to it only after the user brought it to her attention.

However, she said she did not find the melodies similar.

‘We all keep playing around with the same notes, using the same permutations and combinations. I did not feel that this song carried the shadow of my song,’ she wrote.

Bhowmik also pointed out that she had never claimed to have created an entirely unprecedented musical composition.

Explaining the musical influences behind 'Ami Shunechhi Shedin', she said its opening has elements of Panchali music, a traditional Bengali musical form.

According to her, while the song may have originated from that musical foundation, it eventually evolved into something much bigger.

The singer further reflected on how artists inevitably carry influences from the music they have grown up listening to.

She said people often recognise familiar elements in someone else's creative work, but that does not necessarily establish a connection between two compositions.

The singer added that if someone deliberately copies another person's work and presents it as their own, the matter deserves scrutiny. Otherwise, listeners should not rush to draw conclusions based on perceived similarities.

'Tu Mil Jaaye' also faces criticism over visuals

Interestingly, the musical controversy isn't the only criticism surrounding King's latest song. Several social media users have also compared its visuals to Shah Rukh Khan's previous blockbusters, ‘Pathaan’ (2023) and ‘Jawan’ (2023).

Some viewers believe the song's presentation lacks freshness, with its styling, costumes and the on-screen chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone reminding them of 'Jhoome Jo Pathaan' and 'Besharam Rang'.

The criticism has centred on the argument that while the music and visuals may be different, the overall treatment appears familiar.

Who has sung 'Tu Mil Jaaye'?

'Tu Mil Jaaye' features the voices of Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi, both popular names in the Indian music industry. International singer Ed Sheeran has also contributed to the English portions of the track. Sachin-Jigar composed the music.

When will Shah Rukh Khan's 'King' release?

Directed by Siddharth Anand, King brings Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone together for the sixth time. The film also features Suhana Khan, Rani Mukerji, Raghav Juyal, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Abhishek Bachchan in important roles.

The much-awaited film is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24, 2026.
