The teaser of Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming period action drama ‘Ranabaali’ is out, giving audiences their first extended look at the actor as a fierce warrior caught in a brutal fight against British oppression. With its dark setting, heavy action and an intense Vijay at the centre, the teaser sets up a story that goes beyond a conventional period film.

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, ‘Ranabaali’ is set in 19th-century South India against the backdrop of the devastating Madras Famine of 1876-78. The teaser opens on a land struggling with hunger, as British officials control the supply of food and ordinary people are pushed into desperation. The historical tragedy becomes the backdrop for Ranabaali's rebellion against those exploiting his people.

Vijay plays Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, a warrior from Rayalaseema who refuses to stand by as his people suffer. The teaser quickly establishes him as a man driven by anger and a strong sense of responsibility towards his land. His introduction, where he declares his name, is one of the moments clearly designed to make an impact.

The film's central conflict takes shape around Ranabaali's fight against Sir Theodore Hector, played by Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo. Vosloo's character is shown as a ruthless British authority figure responsible for tightening his grip over the region.

The clash between the two gives the teaser much of its action, with Vijay seen taking on British forces in several violent confrontations.

Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, Ranabaali's wife and companion in his struggle. The film marks another collaboration between Vijay and Rashmika after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade, and their reunion is one of the film's other talking points.

There is also a more mysterious thread running through the teaser. Towards the end, a hand emerges from a cave and reaches for a clay pot containing an unidentified liquid. The brief shot raises questions about the spiritual and folklore elements that appear to be woven into the larger story.
