From Korean dramas and Hollywood thrillers to Malayalam romance, documentaries and horror comedies, several new films and series are arriving on streaming platforms this week. Netflix, JioHotstar, Prime Video, ZEE5 and Lionsgate Play have a mix of new originals, international titles and films making their digital debuts.
Here are the major OTT releases to watch this week.
Bethlehem Kudumba Unit
The Malayalam romantic comedy-drama ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’, starring Mamitha Baiju and Nivin Pauly, follows Ashley, a college student who moves with her family to a Catholic neighbourhood near Ernakulam. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she develops a secret relationship with Justin, an older unmarried caterer living nearby. Their romance faces scrutiny from the neighbourhood and their families, while Justin's younger brother Joel and aunt Kunjaunty add to the chaos. ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ began streaming on JioHotstar on October 2.
Pooja Meri Jaan
Mrunal Thakur plays the lead in ‘Pooja Meri Jaan’, a courtroom psychological thriller centred on Pooja Dogra, whose friendship with Aniket takes a disturbing turn after he confesses his feelings for her. When Pooja rejects his proposal, Aniket's obsession leads to his suicide and a message that implicates her in his death. She is subsequently arrested and put on trial for abetment of suicide, with her lawyer Sana taking on a prosecutor determined to portray her as responsible. ‘Pooja Meri Jaan’ began streaming on ZEE5 on October 2.
I Would Rather Die
The Mexican horror-comedy series ‘I Would Rather Die’ follows Archie Pérez, a teenager whose life changes after he is bitten by a zombie at a local mini-mart. Instead of transforming immediately, Archie finds himself caught between being human and becoming undead. With help from his goth best friend and longtime crush, he searches for a cure while uncovering a bizarre conspiracy involving a vitamin scheme, a group of religious women and a school bully. ‘I Would Rather Die’ began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on October 2.

‘Schumacher '94: The Birth of a Legend’ looks back at Michael Schumacher's breakthrough 1994 Formula 1 season, when the German driver established himself as a major force in the sport and won his first world championship. The sports documentary began streaming on Netflix on October 2.
Kill Jackie
Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as Jackie Price in ‘Kill Jackie’, playing a former international drug smuggler who has spent 20 years maintaining a quiet, anonymous life. Her carefully protected existence is shattered when seven assassins are hired to track her down and kill her. ‘Kill Jackie’ began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on October 2.
Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend
Set in 1950s Hong Kong, ‘Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend’ follows the legendary Wing Chun master after he leaves the police force and establishes a martial arts school. His attempt at a quieter life is disrupted when a Western boxing gym targets properties belonging to the local martial arts community. Dennis To stars as Ip Man, who becomes involved in the conflict to protect the traditions he represents. ‘Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend’ began streaming on Lionsgate Play on October 2.
Doing Life
‘Doing Life’ is a romance drama about Anika, a single mother struggling to keep her family together. Her life changes when she reconnects with Carousel, a reformed ex-convict who once saved her during a dangerous prison riot when she was working as a prison officer. Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves lead the cast. ‘Doing Life’ began streaming on Netflix on October 2.
Between Steps
Choo Young-Woo stars as Park Min-Jae in ‘Between Step’s, a drama about a former swimmer whose promising sporting career ends after an illness results in the loss of his right leg. He later turns towards robotics and joins a PhD programme, where he meets Im Yoo-Jin, a clothing and textiles student whose plans for graduate studies are disrupted by an unexpected incident at university. Starring Choo Young-Woo and Kim So-Hyun, ‘Between Steps’ arrives on JioHotstar on October 5.
Below: Something's in the Water
Josh Hartnett and Mackenzie Davis star in ‘Below: Something's in the Water’, a creature thriller set on the isolated coast of Newfoundland. Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a local fisherman haunted by the unexplained death of his father. When a terrifying creature emerges from the sea and threatens the community, Calvin joins marine researcher Fonda Howander to understand the threat and uncover secrets connected to the island's past. ‘Below: Something's in the Water’ arrives on Netflix on October 8.
Take Charge of My Heart
Kim Young-Kwang stars as Baek Ho-Rang, a chaebol heir whose life depends on an artificial heart that is gradually losing its power, in the Korean series ‘Take Charge of My Heart’. His situation changes after he meets Na Bo-Bae, a drama writer who developed unusual electrical abilities after surviving a lightning strike as a child. Her powers could hold the key to keeping Ho-Rang alive. Starring Kim Young-Kwang and Chae Soo-Bin, ‘Take Charge of My Heart’ begins streaming on Netflix on October 9.
100 Days of Deception
Set in 1930s Gyeongseong under Japanese occupation, ‘100 Days of Deception’ follows Lee Ga-Gyeong, a skilled pickpocket looking for a way to earn enough money to leave Korea. Her plans take a dangerous turn when an independence organisation recruits her for an undercover mission. Disguised as an interpreter trainee, she must infiltrate the Government-General of Choseon and assist in a plot to assassinate a Japanese official. Kim Yoo-Jung leads the period thriller, which arrives on Netflix on October 9.
Doctor X: Mafia in White
Kim Ji-won returns to the screen with ‘Doctor X: Mafia in White’, a medical noir centred on Gye Soo-Jeong, a highly skilled surgeon who refuses to conform to hospital politics. After joining Guseo University Hospital through a doctor placement agency, she quickly finds herself at odds with hospital director Bu Seung-Kwon, played by Son Hyun-Joo. The series is a Korean adaptation of the Japanese medical drama Doctor-X, which ran for seven seasons. ‘Doctor X: Mafia in White’ begins streaming on Netflix on October 9.
Animals
Ben Affleck directs, co-writes and stars in ‘Animals’, a thriller about Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball, whose life is thrown into turmoil when his son is kidnapped. With the family forced to find the money needed for the ransom, Mark and his wife become increasingly desperate as they attempt to secure their son's release. Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson and Steven Yeun also feature in the cast. ‘Animals’ arrives on Netflix on October 9.
Reporting Live
Parineeti Chopra stars in ‘Reporting Live’ as an ambitious young journalist who follows a promising lead alongside her experienced cameraman, played by Deven Bhojani. Their investigation takes them into the dangerous world of illegal sand mining, putting them on a collision course with a powerful sand mafia. As the pair gets closer to uncovering the truth, their attempt to report the story puts them in increasing danger. Directed by Dhruv Tripathi, ‘Reporting Live’ begins streaming on Netflix on October 9.
