Mohanlal is getting ready to welcome viewers back to the Bigg Boss Malayalam house. Season 8 will premiere on September 6, and the announcement comes as the ongoing Bigg Boss Agnipareeksha selection programme keeps fans guessing about who could make it into the main house.

The premiere date was revealed through a new promotional video featuring Mohanlal along with actors Lal Jr and Kunchan. From September 6, viewers can watch the show on Asianet, while the season will also stream on JioHotstar.

The new season is being promoted with the tagline, “Winning alone is not enough; you have to keep winning.” The line sets the tone for what the makers appear to be promising for the upcoming season.

Agnipareeksha keeps viewers hooked before the main show

There is already plenty of Bigg Boss activity happening ahead of the main premiere. Bigg Boss Agnipareeksha, the special programme created to select commoners for Season 8, began on August 15.

Unlike the usual celebrity-led casting, the programme gives members of the public a chance to earn a place in the main Bigg Boss house.

The selection process began with 40 commoner contestants and is being conducted through a series of tasks and eliminations across 21 episodes. Former contestant Reneesha Rahiman is hosting the programme, while former housemates Ranjini Haridas, Riyas Salim and Akhil Marar are part of the selection panel.

Several participants have already been eliminated during the process. Biju Thomas, Nithin S Das and Rasha Palathinkal are among those who have exited after facing different challenges.

The commoner selection has also given the audience something to follow before the actual season begins. For many viewers, watching contestants compete for a place in the house offers a different kind of build-up compared with simply waiting for the celebrity names to be announced.

Who will enter the Bigg Boss Malayalam house?

Asianet has not yet released the official list of Season 8 contestants. That has not stopped speculation, however, with several names doing the rounds on social media.

Actor Biju Sopanam, actress Aishwarya Ramsai, television host Lakshmi Nakshathra, model Aparna Thomas and actress Neena Kurup are among the names appearing on prediction lists.

None of these names have been officially confirmed by the channel so far. The celebrity line-up is likely to become clearer as the September 6 premiere approaches, while the commoner selection continues to add another layer to the season.
