Kim attended three auditions for the film, one of which was judged by Nikhil Advani, another by Karan Johar. According to Kim, during her audition with Johar, he was unimpressed with her acting skills, saying, "You can’t dance, you can’t deliver dialogues. Why do you want to be a heroine?" Despite this setback, it was during her third audition with director Aditya Chopra that she was finally selected for the role.
Kim's performance in Mohabbatein earned her the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year (Female), marking the beginning of her career in the film industry. She went on to act in several other films, including Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai, Khadgam, Fida, and Godfather.
Mohabbatein remains a classic, not only for its memorable music and performances but also for its enduring appeal in the romantic genre of Bollywood.
