Mohini Mani passed away peacefully in her sleep after a period of declining health, according to a statement issued by Ajith Kumar's family. Her death comes three years after the passing of her husband.
Sharing the news, the family expressed gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for her in recent years. They also requested privacy as they grieve the loss of their beloved mother.
"Our mother, Mohini Mani, passed away early this morning, in her sleep, after a period of declining health. She was 89. We are grateful for the care and support provided to her and our family by a number of medical professionals these last few years," the statement read.
Family requests privacy during mourning
The family said Mohini Mani's last rites would be conducted privately and urged the public to respect their wish to mourn away from the spotlight.
In their message, they remembered her for the dignity, strength and grace she displayed throughout her life and asked well-wishers to honour her memory while allowing the family space to grieve.
