Singer Vijay Yesudas, who made his acting debut through the Dhanrush-starrer ‘Maari’, was chosen to play a role in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. Unfortunately, the scenes of his character, a spy who sided with ‘Madhuranthakan’ (Rahman), were cut off at the editing table and did not find a place in the final version of the movie.

In an exclusive interview with 'Mathrubhumi', Vijay opened up about the movie and said, “I played the role of a spy who was tasked to ride along with Adithya Karikalan (Vikram) and collect information. I was with the crew for around five days and acted along with Trisha too. However, all those scenes were cut during the editing.”

When asked about whether he had seen those scenes ever again, Vijay answered in the negative, but expressed the wish to watch it one more time.

“I consider the opportunity to have acted in ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ as a positive thing. I saw both the movies and did not feel anything wrong or missing although my scenes were absent. It's a movie that tells a story on a large canvas with many characters and only the scenes which were absolutely necessary were included in the final edit,” he added.
