From dealing with constant scrutiny to navigating online negativity, the actor shares what made him seek silence

Actor Vijay Varma has finally shared his thoughts on stepping back from the public eye, following a period that saw both personal changes and intense public attention.
While his relationship with Tamannaah Bhatia had been in the spotlight for a while, it was the noise around it and beyond that pushed him to take a step back and seek some distance.
Vijay Varma and Tamannaah Bhatia began dating in 2023 and parted ways after two years. The two were fairly open about their relationship during their time together, often appearing in public and speaking about each other. However, in the past year following their separation, Vijay chose to retreat from the limelight.
Although neither Vijay nor Tamannaah officially confirmed the break-up, reports and speculation suggested that differences in their views about the future of the relationship may have led to the split.
Recently, Vijay Varma spoke about distancing himself from public visibility, explaining that the focus had shifted away from his work. He shared that the growing attention around his personal life made it increasingly difficult to maintain that balance.
When asked about the break he took and what he learnt during that phase, Vijay reflected on how public discourse has changed over time.
Speaking to News18, Vijay said,
"When we were growing up, saying something bad about someone on a public platform was frowned upon and not appreciated. Those who badmouthed were considered to be wrong. Abhi sab kuch ulta ho gaya hai. Jo gaali de raha hai, usko koi kuch nahi bol raha hai. The one who's being subjected to these abuses will, in fact, have more people badmouthing rather than supporting them."
He further added, "The world is changing so fast. I'm not able to catch up. There has been an entire shift in the culture. The way people communicate and write comments is a little too excessive, direct and personal. Sometimes, there's too much fabrication and too many lies [written about you]."
Back in December, Vijay Varma had already touched upon this subject, making it clear that he was not deliberately avoiding the media.
"I would have liked complete silence but that's not possible. I have not spoken to the press since IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, not given a single interview, yet the presence is all over and it's beyond my control," he said.
He went on to highlight the challenges of living in a hyper-visible world.
"But this is something that this generation is going to suffer from unless you live in a cave. Your decisions and your lives are being scrutinised every single day, so that's how it is. I did need a gap, I needed more silence. But that's something I didn't have any control over," Vijay added.
On the work front, Vijay Varma is currently preparing for the OTT release of ‘Matka King’. He also has ‘Family Business’ with Anil Kapoor lined up. His most recent release was ‘Gustaakh Ishq’, which hit theatres in 2025.
