Hyderabad: Actor Vijay Deverakonda has found himself at the centre of controversy after a police complaint was filed against him for allegedly making offensive comments about tribal people.

As per a report by Telangana Today, Hyderabad-based lawyer Lal Chauhan lodged the complaint at the SR Nagar police station on Thursday.

According to the complaint, Chauhan took objection to remarks Vijay made during the pre-release event of Suriya’s film ‘Retro’, where the actor compared the recent Pahalgam terror attack to clashes between tribal groups from centuries ago.

Several tribal organisations have also condemned Vijay's statements, accusing him of demeaning their communities. They have demanded a public apology from the actor. The police, responding to the complaint, stated that "necessary action as per law will be taken after obtaining legal opinion."

What exactly did Vijay Deverakonda say?

While addressing the crowd at the Retro event, Vijay Deverakonda delivered an emotional speech regarding the terror attack in Kashmir.

He said, “The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don’t get brainwashed. What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours.”

The actor further criticised Pakistan and the terrorists involved, stating, “India doesn’t even need to attack Pakistan because Pakistanis themselves are fed up with their government and will attack them if this continues. They behave like tribals did 500 years ago, fighting without common sense.”

The comments were made in reference to the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, where 28 tourists lost their lives and several others were injured. Many celebrities across the country have since spoken out against the violence, calling for stringent action against the perpetrators.

During his speech, Vijay also recalled fond memories of his time in Pahalgam while filming for his movie Kushi two years ago.
