Mumbai: Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, husband of superstar Nayanthara, has taken a step back from social media by deactivating his X (formerly Twitter) account. This decision comes amidst the heated controversies surrounding the streaming documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale and his own appearance in a recent pan-India films roundtable discussion.
Vignesh found himself under fire after users criticised his comments on the roundtable. Internet sleuths were quick to point out that his last film, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, and his upcoming project, Love Insurance Kompany, don’t qualify as pan-India ventures. While his Instagram remains active, Vignesh has yet to comment on the X account deactivation.
Nayanthara vs. Dhanush
Nayanthara recently hit headlines for her public fallout with Tamil superstar Dhanush. The controversy centers around Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a film directed by Vignesh and starring Nayanthara and Dhanush.
Dhanush reportedly sent a legal notice to block certain clips and songs from the film used in Beyond The Fairytale, claiming they lacked authorisation. This move sparked an intense reaction from Nayanthara, who shared a powerful open letter on Instagram calling out Dhanush's actions.
“A well-established actor like you, with the support and blessings of your father and brother, an ace director, needs to understand this,” she wrote.
“Cinema, as we all know, is a fight for survival for people like me—a self-made woman with no connections in the industry. I owe my position to my work ethic and the goodwill of my audience,” she added.
Nayanthara revealed that after two years of legal wrangling for a No Objection Certificate (NOC), her team ultimately decided to re-edit the documentary and omit the disputed clips.
“We finally decided to settle for the current version since he declined to permit the usage of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan songs or visual cuts,” she explained.
