Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has reportedly received an extortion threat from a caller claiming to be Harry Boxer, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller is said to have demanded Rs 5 crore from the actor. Kapoor subsequently approached the Mumbai Police, following which the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Crime Branch launched an investigation.

According to Mumbai Police sources, the Crime Branch's technical team examined the audio recording of the threatening call and compared the caller's voice with an official audio sample of Harry Boxer available with the police.

The initial findings suggest that the voice in the recording does not match the sample, leading investigators to suspect that the call may have been a hoax. Police believe someone could have invoked the Bishnoi gang's name to intimidate the actor and extort money.

Investigators are now working to identify the caller and establish whether the incident was the work of an individual or involved an organised criminal network.

The incident comes amid reports of similar threats made in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang elsewhere. In Nagpur, eight bullion traders operating in the Sarafa Bazar area have reportedly received letters demanding Rs 10 lakh from each of them. The letters allegedly threaten to kill the traders and their family members if they refuse to pay or approach the police. Investigators suspect that local criminals could be behind the threats.

Tusshar Kapoor is the son of veteran actor Jeetendra and film producer Shobha Kapoor. His elder sister, Ekta Kapoor, is a prominent name in the television and film industry.

He made his acting debut with films such as ‘Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai’, ‘Kyaa Dil Ne Kaha’. He went on to become widely recognised for his comic roles, particularly in the ‘Kyaa Kool Hain Hum’ series and Rohit Shetty's ‘Golmaal’ franchise.

Kapoor also took on a more serious role in the critically acclaimed film ‘Shor in the City’, earning appreciation for his performance.

On the work front, he was last seen in ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, directed by Ahmed Khan and written by Neeraj Vora. He will next be seen in ‘Golmaal 5’, directed by Rohit Shetty.
