The film has also faced several challenges before its release, including an HD leak months ahead of its theatrical debut and an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.

Despite the delay, the film has maintained strong pre-release momentum. ‘Jana Nayagan’ has crossed the ₹20-crore mark in domestic advance bookings, including blocked seats, while reports suggest that more than seven lakh tickets have been sold across India in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Vijay’s farewell film opens worldwide

‘Jana Nayagan’ is being marketed as Vijay’s final film as a lead actor before his full-time political career. The film is releasing simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and has also recorded strong overseas pre-sales.

With rival releases giving the film a relatively clear run at the box office, attention is now on whether ‘Jana Nayagan’ can match or surpass the collections of Vijay’s previous major releases, including ‘Leo’ and ‘GOAT’.
