Yash’s much-awaited 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' is heading to theatres with an adults-only certificate and a runtime that could make it one of the longest major releases of the year.

The Geetu Mohandas directorial has completed the censor process and received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has also undergone a few modifications as part of the certification process ahead of its worldwide theatrical release on August 26.

The certification has also brought another detail into focus. 'Toxic' reportedly has a runtime of around 3 hours and 14 minutes, giving Yash’s return to the big screen an unusually expansive theatrical cut.

Set against the backdrop of post-Independence Goa, 'Toxic' revolves around a gangster navigating a world of violence, power, loyalty and personal conflicts. The film, which has been described as a fairy tale for grown-ups, brings together an intense gangster narrative with Geetu Mohandas’ distinctive filmmaking style.

The A certificate indicates that the film is intended for adult audiences. While the CBFC has directed certain modifications, the makers have retained a runtime of over three hours for the theatrical version.

For Yash, the film carries added significance as his first release after KGF: Chapter 2. His last theatrical outing became a major pan-India success, making 'Toxic' one of the most anticipated films in his career.

Kiara Advani, Nayanthara headline an ensemble cast

Yash leads an ensemble that includes Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, along with Sudev Nair, Balaji Manohar and Akshay Oberoi. The film also features several international actors in important roles.

Produced by Venkat K Narayana’s KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, 'Toxic' is now gearing up for its August 26 worldwide release.

Geetu Mohandas has directed the film and co-written its story with Yash. Rajeev Ravi serves as the cinematographer, while Ujwal Kulkarni is the editor.

The music team includes Ravi Basrur, Vishal Mishra, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami, adding several musical voices to the film’s soundtrack.

Shot in Kannada and English

Another interesting aspect of 'Toxic' is its multilingual production. The film was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English and is being dubbed into Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam for its Indian release.

With the Indian version now through the certification process, questions remain over how the film will be presented in international markets. It is not yet clear whether overseas audiences will get the original English version in its entirety or whether the version there will undergo similar cuts.
