Washington: Fans of Titanic have debated for years about the famous scene where Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, floats beside Rose on a piece of debris. Could he have fit beside her? Was there "room on the door"? Well, Academy Award winner Kate Winslet recently cleared the air in an interview, and it turns out we’ve all been wrong—it wasn't even a door!

Speaking to People magazine, Winslet laughed about the question she’s asked all the time.

"I knew it was coming," she joked. "But no, it wasn’t a door. It was actually part of the ship’s bannister that had broken off—more like a piece of the stairway."

The longstanding debate: could Jack have survived?

Since Titanic’s 1997 release, fans have wondered if Jack could have survived had he climbed onto the floating debris with Rose. Director James Cameron even commissioned a study with stunt doubles, experimenting with different scenarios. Cameron concluded that "Jack might've lived, but there were many variables," stressing that Jack’s focus was on keeping Rose safe.

Winslet revealed that even DiCaprio can’t escape the "door" questions. In a recent Q&A for her new film 'Lee', Winslet humorously noted how often DiCaprio gets asked about this iconic 'Titanic' moment.

Filming details: Not quite as cold as it looked

For those curious about the conditions on set, Winslet shared some funny behind-the-scenes stories. Filming took place in an infinity tank with shallow water, which required her to occasionally climb out.

“So first of all, I was regularly like, 'Can I just go for a pee?'" she laughed, adding that she had to step out of the tank every now and then.

According to Winslet, the sound of rushing water created a unique and intense atmosphere for the cast and crew.

"You could hear this water noise the whole time, especially during those last 22 minutes of the movie," she explained, recalling the emotionally charged scenes.
