Rhea reflected on her own unfulfilled dream of participating in Kalolsavam during her school years, admitting that a lack of self-confidence held her back

Thrissur: Actor Nadi Rhea Shibu, who rose to popularity through her lead role as Delulu in the film Sarvam Maya, spoke candidly about rejection, self-doubt and perseverance at the inauguration of the State School Kalolsavam in Thrissur on Monday.
Addressing students and participants at what she described as “Asia’s biggest stage”, Rhea urged young artistes not to be disheartened by failures in competitions and reminded them that art should be viewed as a form of expression rather than merely a contest.
“Many of you may know me as Delulu, but my real name is Rhea. You can call me Delulu too — it’s cute,” she said, drawing applause from the audience. She added that it was the character of Delulu in Sarvam Maya that brought her the opportunity to share the stage with senior ministers at the prestigious event. Expressing gratitude, she thanked director Akhil, actor Nivin Pauly and the Fireflies team for believing in her.
Rhea reflected on her own unfulfilled dream of participating in Kalolsavam during her school years, admitting that a lack of self-confidence held her back. “Even if you don’t win, the biggest achievement is that you participated and believed in yourself,” she told the students.
Speaking about her journey before Sarvam Maya, the actor revealed that she had faced repeated rejections and ridicule. “Many people mocked me, saying I didn’t know how to dance. There was a time when my confidence was completely shattered,” she said. “If I had believed them then, ‘Delulu’ would not be celebrated today.”
Emphasising resilience, Rhea encouraged participants to move forward regardless of success or failure. “Don’t let any failure define you. Art is the talent within you,” she said, urging performers to use the platform to showcase their abilities to the world.
She concluded by extending her heartfelt wishes to all participants, reinforcing the message that perseverance and self-belief are the true rewards of artistic pursuit.
