The next Simpsons movie has been officially announced and will release in theatres on 23 July 2027

Fans of Springfield, get ready! After 20 years, the makers of The Simpsons Movie have officially announced the next instalment in the franchise.
The film will release on 23 July 2027, according to a report by Variety. It replaces an untitled Marvel project that has been removed from Disney's 20th Century production studio schedule. This means that within Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe, there will not be a new comic book film between Avengers: Doomsday on 18 December 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars on 17 December 2027.
The 20th Century Studios announced the film on their Instagram early Tuesday. They wrote, "Woohoo! The Simpsons are coming to theatres with an all-new movie on July 23, 2027!"
What is The Simpsons all about?
Created by Matt Groening, The Simpsons is the longest-running animated series and sitcom on television. It has already been renewed through its 40th season, which will air in 2028 and 2029, Variety reported.
The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and follows the lives of the Simpson family: dad Homer, mom Marge, and kids Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.
What happened in the first movie?
The original feature film, The Simpsons Movie, was released in July 2007 and was a huge success. It earned 536 million USD at the global box office against a 75 million USD budget, reported Variety.
Directed by series veteran David Silverman, the plot saw Springfield being trapped under a massive glass dome after Homer accidentally polluted the town's lake. A sequel has been discussed for years, but nothing came of it,until now.
Why is The Simpsons still so popular?
Showrunner Matt Selman told Variety that streaming has played a big part in keeping The Simpsons culturally relevant and bringing in new fans, even after dozens of seasons and a movie since the show started in 1989.
