While details about the sequel remain under wraps, Ektaa has revealed that she has found a story she wants to bring to the screen, with another woman set to take centre stage.

Speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast, Ektaa listed ‘The Dirty Picture 2’ among the major films she is currently developing.

“One very big film I’m making is ‘The Dirty Picture 2’ . I’m planning it after 15 years. This time, I believe there is a story I want to tell,” she said.

Released in 2011, The Dirty Picture starred Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor. The film drew inspiration from the life of late South Indian actress Silk Smitha and explored themes of sexuality, ambition and the judgement faced by women in the entertainment industry.

Reflecting on the film's central character, Ektaa said she never viewed Silk Smitha as a victim. Instead, she saw her as a woman who embraced her sexuality despite the criticism and condemnation she faced.

“The Dirty Picture was about Silk Smitha. It was about a woman who was condemned for standing up against her sexuality. Ab sexuality is about your choice. Maine kabhi usse victim ki tarah nahi dekha. I saw her as someone who celebrated her sexuality, and the film did so well,” she said.

Ektaa added that the sequel would once again tell the story of a woman like Silk Smitha. However, she did not reveal whose life or experiences would inspire the upcoming film.

The producer hinted that a bigger announcement about the project would be made later.
