Kerala High Court issues notice to CBFC on plea seeking cancellation of certificate for The Kerala Story 2 amid controversy over teaser.

Kochi: A petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking cancellation of the censor certificate granted to the film ‘The Kerala Story 2’. The court has issued notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and directed the producers to respond. The matter will be taken up again next Tuesday.
The teaser of ‘The Kerala Story 2’, directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, was released two days ago. The teaser includes a scene in which a Hindu girl is allegedly forced to consume beef, triggering widespread criticism and ridicule. Protests against the film’s content also surfaced on social media.
Following the controversy, the petition was moved in the High Court seeking revocation of the film’s screening permission.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had recently criticised the film, stating in a Facebook post that reports about the release of a second part of ‘The Kerala Story’, allegedly made with the intention of spreading hatred against Kerala and undermining its secular traditions, must be viewed seriously. He urged people to collectively reject attempts to portray Kerala, known for communal harmony, as a hub of terrorism.
The film, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with Aashin A Shah as co-producer, is slated for theatrical release on February 27, 2026. The lead roles are played by newcomers.
