The 2012 Malayalam film Thattathin Marayathu, written and directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, was a great success in Malayalam cinema. Featuring Nivin Pauly and Isha Talwar in lead roles, the film was an instant hit, especially among the younger audience in Kerala.

Among the film's memorable features was its soundtrack, composed by Shaan Rahman. One of the standout songs, Muthuchippi Poloru, penned by Anu Elizabeth Jose and sung by Remya Nambeesan and Sachin Warrier, eventually became a massive hit. However, in an interview earlier this year with Leafy Stories, Vineeth revealed that the song initially received a lot of hate comments.

Speaking about the song’s reception, Vineeth said, “After the release of the first teaser and the song Anuraagathin Velayil, we received an overwhelmingly positive response. But when Muthuchippi was released, it faced widespread criticism. We didn’t understand the exact reason back then.”

Vineeth noted that the industry had certain biases at the time. “It was a challenging period. I think viewers were initially a little reluctant to accept a female singer with a bass voice. Remya Nambeesan, who sang the song, was deeply affected by the harsh comments.”

Despite the initial negativity, Muthuchippi Poloru gradually won hearts and went on to surpass the popularity of other tracks in the film. The song eventually became a chartbuster, earning Remya Nambeesan and Sachin Warrier multiple awards at various events.

Reflecting on the journey, Vineeth said, “Although Remya was initially disheartened, it was rewarding to see the song become another hit in her career and eventually be celebrated.”

Thattathin Marayathu continues to be remembered not just for its narrative but also for its iconic music, with Muthuchippi Poloru holding a special place in the hearts of fans. (With inputs from Agencies)
