The organisation argued that raising trivial objections over film titles and character names is not a legitimate or mature approach

Thiruvananthapuram: Sangh Parivar-affiliated organisation Tapasya has strongly criticised the denial of permission for the premiere show of Janaki vs State of Kerala, starring actor and MP Suresh Gopi. In a press release, Tapasya described the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) stance as “childish”.
The organisation argued that raising trivial objections over film titles and character names is not a legitimate or mature approach. “Whether in literature or cinema, creators have the right to choose titles and character names. It is unreasonable to claim that mythological names cannot be used for fictional characters,” the statement said.

Tapasya pointed out that across India, plenty of names--regardless of caste or religion--are rooted in Hindu mythology. Numerous films bearing similar names have been released in the past without issue, it added.
The organisation has called on the CBFC to clarify the reasons behind the current decision to withhold certification for the film. Tapasya's governing body has also submitted a formal letter to the CBFC Chairman, demanding that the board reconsider and withdraw its current position.
