Malappuram: In an interesting turn of events, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to launch a probe against the cops responsible for misbehaving with real-life Manjummel Boys.
The movie, which was released earlier this year, is based on a real-life incident that happened in 2006. In the movie, some cops of the Tamil Nadu Police can be seen misbehaving with the group that visited Kodaikanal from Manjummel in Kerala. They faced a bad experience when they sought the help of local police to save their friend, who got trapped in Guna Caves. However, the police subjected them to harsh treatment and initially declined to help in the rescue efforts. Eventually, one officer agreed to accompany the group to Guna Caves and commence the operation to save their friend.

The decision to launch a probe came in the backdrop of a complaint filed by V. Shiju, a Nilambur native and a former member of the Railway Conservative Committee, to the home secretary of Tamil Nadu. Following this, the TN DGP directed police officials to take a look into the complaint.
Shiju told Mathrubhumi that the real Manjummel Boys confided in him revealing they endured intense torment from the Kodaikanal Police, which was far severe than what was portrayed in the film. Besides, they alleged that police confiscated their money too.
Despite facing setbacks, Siju, who was one of the members of the group, risked his own life to enter the caves to rescue his friend. The government also honoured him for his heroics by awarding him 'Jeevan Raksha Padak'.
