A throwback interview featuring National Award-winning actress Surabhi Lakshmi is going viral on social media. The video shows her recalling an incident from her early school days.
In a conversation with Ginger Media Entertainments during promotions for the 2022 film ‘Kumari', Surabhi spoke about digging up antlions behind the school bathrooms during lunch breaks — a game she and her friends took great pride in. But what truly caught everyone off-guard was her next revelation.
“When I was a child, we used to buy colourful baby chicks from shops for around five rupees. I liked buying them and would twist their necks. I behaved like a little psycho. We used to go behind the school bathrooms and do it. I enjoyed the popping sound their necks made when twisted. But all of this happened when I was about five years old—at an age when I didn’t fully understand what I was doing,” Surabhi recalled.
The actress quickly followed up the story with a light apology, noting that her actions came from a place of childhood ignorance, not malice. She acknowledged that she was very young at the time and didn’t understand the gravity of what she was doing.
Hearing her story, both the anchor and her ‘Kumari’ co-star Aishwarya Lekshmi were left visibly surprised.
The viral clip stems from promotional rounds for ‘Kumari,’ a fantasy-horror film directed by Nirmal Sahadev. The film centres on a young bride who is taken to the mysterious land of Kanhirangat — a cursed place where deep-rooted customs dictate life and death.
Aishwarya Lekshmi played the titular role, with Shine Tom Chacko as her husband. Surabhi Lakshmi appeared alongside a star-studded ensemble including Swasika, Tanvi Ram, Shivajith Padmanabhan, Giju John, Rahul Madhav, and Shruthy Menon.
Surabhi was last seen in ‘Get Set Baby,’ starring Unni Mukundan, and ‘Rifle Club,’ which hit theatres in December 2024.
