As dispute between filmmakers over actor remuneration intensifies, poet, director and producer Sreekumaran Thampi shared his thoughts on the matter. In a post on Facebook, he pointed out that in every profession, the person who invests money is the employer, while the one who works for a pay is the employee. However, he noted, the situation is different in the film industry.
He highlighted that the expectation is to pay millions, while also needing to "plead for mercy”, referring to the challenges filmmakers face. Thampi clarified that he was not sharing this post as a poet or director, but as a producer who has endured financial losses and humiliation after producing numerous films.
He also pointed out that even the selection of a female lead or technical experts in a film is often based on the preferences of the stars.
He added, "I will never say that actors should not make films. They too should enter the production field. Only then will they understand the position of the producer," Thampi concluded.
