Tom Holland has a message for his Indian fans: revisit all of his Spider-Man movies before the release of his upcoming film, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, scheduled for a theatrical release later this month. With all three of his standalone Spider-Man films now streaming on Sony LIV, it is time to catch up on Peter Parker’s journey from being an overenthusiastic teenager to becoming a hero.

But, if time is what you don’t have to rewatch all his ‘Spider-Man’ films, we bring you a quick refresher on some of the biggest moments that shaped Peter Parker’s journey so far.

When Tony Stark brought Spider-Man into the Avengers

Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in the 2016 film ‘Captain America: Civil War’. It’s Tony Stark who recruits the 15-year-old Peter Parker to join and help his Team Iron Man. Stark also designed a high-tech suit for Parker, as he begins to fight alongside the mightiest heroes of Earth. More than a mentor, Stark became Peter’s father figure, who helped in shaping the young Spider-Man’s journey of becoming a superhero.

When Spider-Man learned that it’s not a suit that makes a hero

When ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ was released in 2017, it showed Parker’s desperation to become an Avenger. Parker, who believed that it’s Stark’s high-tech suit that makes him a superhero, recklessly takes on a fight against Vulture, putting the lives of many at risk. Following the incident, Stark takes away Peter’s suit, saying the iconic dialogue: “If you’re nothing without this suit, then you shouldn’t have it.” It leaves Parker to fight against Vulture once more, but this time, wearing his homemade suit, and a lesson that further shapes him - suits don’t make superheroes.

How Thanos’ blip changed Peter’s world forever

When Thanos snapped his fingers to turn many heroes into dust in 2018’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, it included Spider-Man, too. One of the most heartbreaking scenes from the MCU is the final emotional moments shown between Stark and Peter. But, with ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019, Peter returns to the world after Hulk reverses the blip. However, Peter comes back to a world where his loved ones have moved on in their lives without him.

Tony Stark’s death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

One of the most crucial and turning moments in Parker’s journey is when his father-like mentor, Stark, sacrifices himself to defeat Thanos. In the next ‘Spider-Man’ film, which is ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, Parker is shown struggling to come to terms with Stark's death. He is also constantly seen asking himself whether he is the “next Iron Man”, until he fully realises that he doesn’t need to replace Stark but has to become the best version of Spider-Man.

When Spider-Man’s identity was exposed

One of the biggest events of Parker’s journey came when Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, manipulated him into handing Stark’s powerful satellite system, EDITH. Mysterio, revealing himself as the antagonist, then frames Spider-Man for a deadly drone attack.

Furthermore, the post-credit scene of ‘Spider-Man: Far Away Home’ showed J Jonah Jameson broadcasting doctored footage of Spider-Man, accusing him of murder, as well as revealing his true identity - Peter Parker, to the world.

The opening of the multiverse, leading to old friends and enemies

After his real identity was exposed, Parker was desperate to erase the world’s memory of his identity. He approaches Doctor Strange in 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to cast a spell. Unfortunately, the spell goes wrong, eventually opening doors to a multiverse that brought Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man characters, as well as villains from past ‘Spider-Man’ films, such as Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and the Lizard. This is touted as one of the biggest crossovers in superhero films.

Aunt May’s final moments

When the wrong cast unleashed chaos in the multiverse, Green Goblin attacked Aunt May, leaving her dead. In her final moments with Parker, she tells him, “With great power, there must also come great responsibility.” One of the most iconic and heartbreaking moments from the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise, it leaves Parker with a better understanding of his responsibilities, as he chooses compassion over revenge.

Parker’s self-sacrifice for the betterment of the world

Parker once again turns to Doctor Strange, asking him to cast one last spell, this time to make everyone forget that Peter Parker ever existed. As Doctor Strange casts the spell, it works, and everyone forgets him, including MJ, Ned, and Happy Hogan. It’s one of the greatest sacrifices made by Parker, where he chose for everyone closer to him to forget about him.

A brand-new beginning

In the final minutes of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, Parker is shown starting his life from scratch. He is seen living alone in an apartment in New York, sewing his Spider-Man suit. He is shown leading a life without Stark technology or the Avengers. This scene holds a lot of importance as it sets the stage for the time from which ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is anticipated to begin.
