An Indian rat snake (Dhaman) was safely rescued from the parking area of actor Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai.

A snake rescue operation was carried out at the Bandra residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Monday after a Dhaman (Indian rat snake) was spotted inside the parking area of his Galaxy Apartments building in Mumbai. Security personnel on duty noticed the reptile near a shuttered section of the parking zone, prompting an immediate alert.
According to officials present, the incident unfolded smoothly, with no injuries or disruption reported. The snake was later confirmed to be non-venomous.
Rescuer called in after police alert
Police constable Manoj Katte, who was stationed at the apartment complex, informed local snake rescuer Vicky Dubey after sighting the reptile. Dubey reached the building promptly and began searching the parking area before locating the snake.
Visuals from the scene showed Dubey handling the reptile with confidence and precision. He caught it by the tail, secured it safely and placed it into a collection bag to be removed from the premises. The Bandra West Police Station and the Forest Department control room were also notified, and an official diary entry was made regarding the incident.
How venomous is the snake?
Authorities identified the reptile as a Dhaman or Indian rat snake, a commonly found non-venomous species in urban and semi-urban parts of India. Known for preying on rodents, frogs and small animals, they are often mistaken for venomous snakes because of their size and agility.
Experts noted that the manner in which Dubey handled the snake indicated that it was not a dangerous species. Trained rescuers typically handle non-poisonous snakes directly while ensuring safety for both the animal and the people around.
Wildlife workers have reiterated that snake sightings tend to increase during changing weather conditions and the monsoon season, when reptiles may seek shelter in residential areas. Residents are advised not to panic and to avoid attempting to remove snakes without professional help.

On the work front, Salman Khan is set to appear next in the film ‘Maatrubhumi’.
