Sivakarthikeyan’s political action drama ‘Parasakthi’ is set to arrive on OTT less than a month after opening in cinemas, offering audiences another chance to watch the film following its mixed critical reception and steady theatrical run.

The film, which released in theatres on 10 January, will begin streaming on ZEE5 from 7 February 2026. Set against the sociopolitical backdrop of Tamil Nadu, the drama has continued to draw attention even as its box-office momentum slowed in the later weeks of release.

Box office performance slows in later weeks

Recent figures indicate that the film’s daily collections tapered towards the end of its theatrical run. According to Sacnilk, ‘Parasakthi’ earned Rs 2 lakh on Day 26, matching its returns on Days 25 and 24, while Day 23 recorded a slightly higher Rs 6 lakh.

Overall, the film’s India net total stands at Rs 52.4 crore. Its India gross collection is reported at Rs 61.99 crore, with overseas earnings of Rs 22.85 crore pushing the worldwide tally to Rs 84.84 crore.

Story rooted in Tamil Nadu’s political history

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sudha Kongara and produced by Aakash Bhaskaran under the Dawn Pictures banner, ‘Parasakthi’ unfolds during the 1965 Anti-Hindi imposition movement.

The narrative follows two brothers drawn into the political agitation, exploring themes of identity, language, dignity and resistance, and how large-scale movements reshape personal lives and social relationships. Sivakarthikeyan portrays Chezhiyan, while Sreeleela appears as Ratnamala.

Interest in the collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and Sudha Kongara contributed to the film’s early box-office traction before collections declined in subsequent weeks.

Certification delay before theatrical release

Ahead of its cinema debut, the film encountered a delay in securing certification from the Central Board of Film Certification, echoing recent clearance issues faced by ‘Jana Nayagan’. The CBFC ultimately approved ‘Parasakthi’ shortly before its theatrical release.
