Poornima Indrajith on resilience, women empowerment, and the importance of caution in business.

Poornima Indrajith, actress and founder of Pranaah Boutique, has emerged as a role model for aspiring women entrepreneurs, combining her passion for fashion with a sharp business acumen. Long before her association with the celebrity fashion brand, Poornima had already established her presence in the industry, and today, Pranaah Boutique is the go-to choice for many high-profile clients.
The idea for Pranaah Boutique gained momentum after she became a mother, when her interest in fashion deepened. With strong support from her husband and family, she successfully launched the venture, building a brand known for one of the happiest customer bases in the business.
Speaking to Ginger Media Entertainments on the evolving landscape for women in business, Poornima highlighted the role of social media in empowering women entrepreneurs, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. “After COVID-19, coupled with the rise of social media, many women – even those confined to their homes and without formal support systems – began experimenting with business models. Social media amplified their efforts and made them more visible. For me, anything that empowers you is positive. Achieving financial independence is extremely important,” she said, adding, “Seeing women around us succeed brings happiness, but it also introduces a healthy sense of healthy competition.”
Poornima emphasised that entering business requires awareness and prudence. Understanding potential partners and keeping a close eye on market trends, she said, ensures better decision-making. “If you want to go into business, you must be prepared to learn from the experience; otherwise, don’t start. Experience is the best teacher,” she noted, emphasising the importance of learning from mistakes to overcome challenges.
Commenting on the recent financial scam at Diya Krishna’s organisation, Poornima praised the platform that enabled the crisis to be addressed publicly and efficiently. “As a woman, what happened to Diya was very distressing. It happened at a time when she should have been experiencing peace. From a woman’s perspective, it was extremely upsetting. During pregnancy, one expects tranquility, yet business stress can be significant. It doesn’t matter whether the business is big or small – when we enter such ventures, prioritising trust is crucial. Losing that trust is incredibly difficult, not just financially but emotionally as well. We must consider it from both perspectives,” she said.
She further noted the lessons such incidents impart. “Such events increase awareness, prompting us to question whether we are placing our trust too blindly or need to be more cautious. In Diya’s case, the way she used the platform to educate and raise awareness among people is equally commendable.”
Balancing her career, business, and personal life, Poornima stressed the importance of trusting her team. “I place a great deal of trust in my team because that is the only way I can manage my life. I juggle multiple roles and often need to step back and reassess,” she said.
Poornima Indrajith was last seen in the movie ‘Balti’, written and directed by Unni Sivalingam, featuring Shane Nigam in the lead role.
