Veteran filmmaker Shaji Kailas has heaped praise on the film Bazooka, directed by debutant Deeno Dennis and starring Malayalam cinema’s megastar Mammootty in the lead. In a Facebook post, Shaji Kailas described the film as a standout debut and lauded Deeno's storytelling style and presentation, which he said brought a fresh perspective to Malayalam cinema.

Shaji Kailas, known for his mass entertainers and cinematic flair, was especially impressed by the way Mammootty was portrayed in the film. "What is worth mentioning is how Mammookka has been used," he wrote, highlighting the actor’s silent yet powerful introduction and his impactful final performance.

“I saw the film Bazooka, directed by Deeno Dennis, the son of the beloved Kaloor Dennis, the other day. It has been proven that Deeno is a good and amazing director with a very strong hold on his work,” Kailas stated in his post. “Each frame has made a difference in the film, in a way that does not make it feel like it is the first film by him.”

He also praised Deeno’s ability to craft and present a unique narrative style, one that breaks away from the familiar patterns of Malayalam filmmaking. “He has presented his own story in a very different way, in framing and presentation that is not familiar to Malayalam cinema, and has presented it very magnificently.”

Talking about the film’s lead, Kailas said, “Mammootty's first silent entry, his slow and steady approach, and his very exciting final performance have all turned Bazooka into a different type of film.”

Calling Bazooka a refreshing addition to Malayalam cinema, Shaji Kailas concluded his post by expressing hope for more such innovative films: “Deeno, a new director, has handled this new and unfamiliar subject in a completely amazing way.
