Brussels: The Belgian capital was awash in blue as it welcomed Rihanna

and a star-studded cast for the world premiere of the highly anticipated new Smurfs movie.

Rihanna, who not only produced the film but also lends her voice to the character Smurfette, was the highlight of the event. The pregnant Grammy winner delighted fans on Saturday by chatting with children, linking arms with a costumed Smurfette lookalike, and attending the premiere arm in arm with partner A$AP Rocky.

The family-friendly summer release, a live-action animated reboot, follows Smurfette leading a daring rescue mission to save Papa Smurf. Joining Rihanna on the carpet were director Chris Miller, who playfully held Smurf toys and cast members, including James Corden and Dan Levy. Many attendees embraced the theme, donning shades of iconic Smurf blue.

The movie is set for its US release on July 18.

The Smurfs, originally created by Belgian comics artist Peyo and known locally as “Schtroumpfs,” hold a special place in Belgium’s cultural heritage. The premiere celebrations were held in central Brussels, not far from a Smurf museum and included a weekend of themed events throughout the city.

Even the city’s famous Manneken Pis statue got in on the fun, dressed up as No Name Smurf for the occasion. Brussels’ Grand-Place hosted Smurf-themed festivities all weekend, and local buses and train cars were decked out in bright blue, transforming the city into a lively tribute to the beloved little blue characters.
