Actor Ranvir Shorey has filed an official complaint with Mumbai Police over alleged threats after heated social media exchanges linked to political differences.

Actor Ranvir Shorey has lodged an official police complaint over alleged threats from people opposing his political views, following a series of heated exchanges on social media.
The actor announced the development on Tuesday through a post on X, formerly Twitter, confirming that he had approached the police.
“Official complaint has been filed. Now it’s over to @MumbaiPolice. Thanks to everyone who has shown concern”, he wrote.
Earlier, Shorey had thanked Mumbai Police for contacting him after his personal information was allegedly exposed online, an incident that was followed by threats.
The controversy comes amid the actor's online confrontations with users over protests against alleged irregularities in India's electoral system.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), an online political group, has stepped up its agitation seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Protests in Delhi had entered their fourth day on October 13, 2026, with the youth-led movement opposing the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The group alleges that the exercise has deprived millions of people of their voting rights, while the Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have rejected claims of manipulation.
On October 10, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and fellow leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained after arriving in Delhi for a planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Several other protesters were also detained as authorities enforced extensive security restrictions in the area.
The three leaders were released on October 11, reportedly on the condition that they maintain public peace for a year. Dipke later reiterated his resolve to continue the agitation.
Alongside its demand for the chief election commissioner's resignation, the CJP has called for electoral reforms and an independent investigation into alleged irregularities in voter-list revisions.
During a special hearing on Sunday, the Supreme Court reportedly observed that protesters would not be detained and that public transport services would return to normal.
