Priyamani, known for her performances across multiple languages, remains a beloved figure in Malayalam cinema despite appearing in only a few films. Among them, ‘Thirakkatha’ (2008) stands out as one of her most acclaimed performances. She portrayed Malavika in the film, which was inspired by the life of the late actress Srividya. The movie also featured Anoop Menon, Prithviraj and Samvritha Sunil in key roles.

In an interview with Cue Studio, Priyamani discussed her experience in ‘Thirakkatha,’ noting some similarities between herself and Malavika. "All the characters Malavika played were talked about—both in the film and in real life. Even her character roles became topics of discussion. Similarly, the roles I take on now are also spoken about. So there is that similarity, and I’m happy about it. However, my journey is not the same as Malavika’s, and I pray that it never is," she said.

The actress admitted that she did not extensively prepare for the role. "I accepted the film purely on blind faith. All the credit for Malavika's brilliance goes to director Ranjith. In some scenes, he wanted me to be a playful Malavika, while in others, he advised me to underplay my emotions. We rehearsed extensively, and he guided me to find the right balance. The most challenging parts were the scenes after Malavika is diagnosed with cancer," Priyamani said.

She also recalled an emotional moment on set when makeup artist Ranjith Ambady was moved to tears while applying her prosthetic makeup. "The entire set fell silent after my prosthetic makeup was done. Ranjith Ambady, who did my makeup, cried while working on me. That’s when I realised I had to put in extra effort to do justice to the role. Ranjith sir guided me on how to portray Malavika’s struggles after her cancer diagnosis. At one point, I doubted whether I could pull it off, but I am happy with how the scenes turned out," she said.

Priyamani’s latest film, ‘Officer on Duty,’ marks her first collaboration with Kunchacko Boban. She has also established herself in Bollywood, gaining recognition after her role in ‘The Family Man’ series. She has since appeared in several major Hindi films, including the blockbuster ‘Jawan.’
