Kochi: Police have sought three days custody of director Ranjith, who was arrested in a sexual assault case. They stated that detailed interrogation is essential. Ranjith, currently lodged in the Ernakulam Sub Jail, will be produced before the court on Saturday.

Police were unable to question him properly at the time of arrest due to health issues. Hence, they have requested custody for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to conduct a thorough interrogation and collect related evidence.

The caravan where the alleged assault took place was located by police the other day. As part of further investigation, those present on the film set are being summoned. However, many of them are reportedly not in Kerala and are in Mumbai. They have been asked to reach Kochi immediately.

Ranjith’s bail plea is also scheduled to be heard on Saturday. A new lawyer will appear for him, as the advocate who represented him earlier has withdrawn from the case.

The case alleges that a young actress was sexually assaulted inside a caravan on the film set on January 19. Kochi City Police Commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar had earlier stated that people on the set witnessed the actress coming out of the caravan in tears.

Statements from those present at the shooting location are expected to be crucial, and this process is likely to be completed first. Ranjith, who was arrested, has been remanded to judicial custody. The court will consider both his bail plea and the police custody request on Saturday.
