Chennai: A petition has been submitted to the Madras High Court requesting the removal of dialogues that glorify police encounters in the upcoming film 'Vettaiyan,' starring Rajinikanth. The petition was filed by K. Palanivelu, a resident of Madurai, who is seeking to halt the film's release scheduled for October 10 until the demands are met.

A bench comprising Justice R. Subramanian and Justice L. Victoria Gowri reviewed the petition and directed notices to be issued to the film's producers. The complaint highlights specific scenes from the film's teaser where Rajinikanth's character suggests that encounter deaths serve not only as punishment for criminals but also as a means to prevent future crimes.

The petitioner argues that such portrayals promote illegal and unconstitutional practices, referring to police encounters that have been a major issue in the state. The film's narrative centres around police encounters, which adds to the sensitivity of the content.

The cast of 'Vettaiyan' also includes prominent actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Manju Warrier. The film's release comes at a time when there have been 13 reported police encounter killings in Tamil Nadu over the past 13 months, further complicating the public's perception of police practices.
