Kochi: A writ petition has been filed in the Kerala High Court alleging that the film Oru Jaathi Jaathakam, starring Vineeth Sreenivasan, contains misogynistic and anti-LGBTQIA+ references. The petition was filed by Alappuzha native Shakiya S Priyamvada, who raised concerns over dialogues in the film that are claimed to promote discrimination and perpetuate harmful stereotypes.
The complaint filed by Priyamvada alleges that certain dialogues in the film violate human dignity and promote derogatory references, particularly targeting the LGBTQIA+ community. The petition seeks a directive from the court to censor or remove such derogatory dialogue from the film and any copies released on OTT platforms. The High Court bench, led by Justice Bechu Kurian, accepted the case.
The court is expected to send notices to the filmmakers on Monday.
Additionally, Priyamvada has urged the court to take action against the film’s director, M. Mohanan, and the production company for allegedly violating Section 18 of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
The film Oru Jaathi Jaathakam, directed by M. Mohanan, features Vineeth Sreenivasan and Nikhila Vimal in lead roles, with a screenplay and dialogue written by Rakesh Mantodi.
